Leslie, Nicole, SciTeacher, my baby sister and I won trivia tonight! $50 to spend on beer at The Corner Pub. Thank goodness it’s Wednesday.
We all knew that Mama Mia was composed of Abba songs and that the STD nicknamed “the clap” was gonorrhea. The science teacher got the science question wrong, the English majors got the fictional character question wrong, the Texan didn’t know the Blue Bonnet Bowl was in Huston and none of us knew who the quarterback selected by the Falcons in 1991 from Mississippi State was.
But we did know that the only one of four theme songs not sung by the star of the television show was the theme to Growing Pains. More specifically, the drunkest of us knew the answer to the final bonus question. We bet big, as big as we could, and it paid off. We went from last place to first place with one question. I am sure there is a life lesson in that somewhere.
If you’re in Atlanta this week, drinks are on us.
Bring on the Queen!

Congrats, guys! But just to be a cruel person, I’m assuming you mean Southern Miss, not Miss State…and how could you diss my boy Brett like that
.
Also, I definitely learned a life lesson from this. “The clap,” man that stuff’s a bitch.

I would still like to assert that my answer was correct.
Question: Dichlorodifluoromethane is a chemical in air conditioners more commonly known as what?
My answer: a CFC (chlorofluorocarbon – methane is a carbon)
Given answer (and Leslie’s answer): Freon
Well, as a quick glance at Wikipedia will tell you, my answer is just fine, dammit.

I maintain you were too smart for a bar Trivia game, its not that your answer was wrong, it was just far more sophisticated than expected from a bunch of 20somethings guzzling beer.
If we had lost, then I would have been willing to take the fight all the way to the top, demanding that we were awarded points for an answer that was correct, even if it wasn’t on the trivia answer sheet. But we won.
By the way, my sister hasn’t stopped talking about how much fun she had with you all. So, really, we won in more ways then one.

Well, and just to play devil’s advocate (plus defending myself since I got the SCIENCE answer right!)….the answer came down really to literary analysis. The context of the question — air conditioners — made “freon” the arguably more “correct” answer. Had the question asked about the ozone or car emission, Kevin, you would have had the more correct answer.
